“Alexandria is a place where many souls dwell,
Spirits who sail bearing storms and calm days.
The Bride of the Sea, nurturing mother and confidant friend.
We Alexandrians live in this realm of glory so frail.
Yet Alexandria is everywhere and Alexandrian is every man.”
Fernando Pérez
Fernando Perez composed Alexandria during his life in the city before and during the 2011 Egyptian revolution.
After years living in the historic city Mr. Perez wanted to write a musical work reflecting the deepest and most spiritual side of Alexandrians.
The first part written for guitar and string quartet has several movements including contemporary, romantic, flamenco, canon and waltz styles.
The Second part is a collection of guitar solo pieces inspired in different places around the city and using the flavour of the different cultures which have enriched Alexandria since its early times.
The musical work was premiered at the Alexandria International Festival and again presented as a farewell concert by Fernando Perez when the artist decided to leave the country in the middle of the 2011 egyptian revolution.
This last farewell concert was attended by a full house audience, among them were Alexandrians, several consuls from foreign countries, and representatives of different cultural associations.
A very special gathering once again proving that Alexandria is a city in continuos making of history.
