About Fernando Perez's Hawaiian life..
In Hawaii Fernando has been fortunate enough to learn and play with very influential and genuine Hawaiian music artists like George
Kahumoku, Cindy Combs, Richard Ho'opi'i, Bob Brozman and Raiatea Helm.
He believes in the importance of true, authentic music and has gone to great lenghs to demonstrate that belief through his guitar playing. "As part of my studies about music from different cultures applied to the guitar, I moved to Hawai'i in 2001 to learn more about this culture and their unique ways of playing this instrument. Hawaiians embraced me like ohana (family) and showed me a way of living, difficult to find anywhere else today.
A few weeks before my departure to meet a new culture I had the honor to record with Wendell. This was the icing on top of a cake made during three wonderful years living with my hawaiian brothers. The recording is pretty much 100% hawaiian, non-rehearsed, alive, back yard style and nahenahe (smooth). My intention on every note played was to say Mahalo (thanks) from the heart to every Hawaiian who keeps alive this Spirit of Aloha" (Fernando Perez).
