He is a very surprising case. Born in Ejea and for the last six years he is been traveling around the world learning the secrets of different guitars. To attend one of his concerts is to go on a journey around the most unusual modalities of world music.
--What are you exactly looking for?
--I’ll tell you in one word: truth.
--Well, you have chosen a world, music, full of lies.
--Music is good. What spoils it, is a series of interests which have nothing to do with music.
--You offer a very special type of concerts...
--Yes, I perform music from different cultures applied to the guitar, and spiced with anecdotes and stories from these cultures. It is not about playing an african song without telling where it comes from.
--What musical cultures have influenced you?
--Uy, the question would be which ones haven’t influenced me. From my own to start with, the spanish, african, Indian, music from the Pacific, the new world, arabic...
--Which one would be the most complest technically?
--Physical technique flamenco. Intellectually. hindustani music. Spiritually, I couldn’t chose, each one has its own way.
--Have you found many difficulties playing music in different guitars?
|
-In some of these you have to change tunings... There are lots of patience and work involved. But the most difficult is to achieve the spiritual experience. I don’t like learning any type of music just mechanically, I am not interested on it. Art is made by the experiences, life experiences, cultures, without these it would be empty.
--How do you spread your music?
--I offer concerts, solo or collaborating with other artists. Also educational concerts and recordings are a part and a memory of these experiences.
--How was moving to the United States?
--I finished my guitar studies in Spain although I was thirsty for more. One gotta have something worth dying in order to have a life worth living. Music is my reason to live so I moved to Los Angeles because is one of the music world capital.
--Did it take long for doors to open to you?
--I don’t want to be famous. And I think many doors opened to me because the kind of person I am, there are lots of great musicians. Now I just got here from living in Hawai’i the last three years in january I am moving to India, where I have the honor of being accepted by a hindustani music teacher in Jaipur.
